
Bio
Jay brings fifteen years of experience in teaching, coaching, adult learning, design, and technology to his role as Chief Design Officer for Constructive Learning Design. Jay began his teaching career as a lateral-entry, CTE teacher in Digital Media. He taught in Iredell County, Johnston County, and Wake County before transitioning into a role as an instructional coach and master coach for North Carolina New Schools, a nonprofit leader in instructional coaching and professional learning. As a coach he has worked with teachers and educators all over North Carolina, including Durham County, Bladen County, Wake County, and Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools. His work as a coach has focused on learning-centered instruction, design thinking, project-based learning, technology integration, building Transformational Learning Communities, and coaching other instructional coaches.
Prior and concurrent to his work in education, Jay has worked in digital media production. He has produced and directed documentary films, marketing videos, and educational media for adults, college students, and K-12 students. Jay is a School Reform Initiative-trained facilitator of Transformational Learning Communities. He holds a BA in Anthropology from Michigan State University, and an MFA degree in Digital Cinema from National University. While earning his MFA degree, Jay served as a Fellow and Senior Fellow in New Media and Journalism for the Open Source Teaching Project.
