Bio

Mia Pumo brings over twenty years of educational experience to her position as Chief Operating Officer and Coach of Constructive Learning Design, LLC, an organization that provides design thinking and coaching to schools and districts to support their goals for student success and teacher effectiveness.  Mia formerly worked at NC New Schools as an instructional coach, master coach, and Director of Career Academy Development.  Prior to this, she worked in Guilford County teaching grades K-5 with a focus on early literacy in high needs schools. She also served as a math curriculum specialist, mentor teacher, cooperating teacher for student interns and induction coordinator providing professional learning to first-year teachers. During her tenure, she served on the superintendent’s committee for innovative design of scheduling, as well as the NC governor’s consortium of National Board Certified teachers offering insight into teacher retention in high needs schools. She has designed and presented professional learning at the state and national level.

Before beginning her career as an educator, Mia worked as a television advertising account executive. She earned a bachelor’s degree in radio, television, and film at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She also holds a master’s degree in education from UNC-Greensboro and an educational administrative degree from High Point University. She has been a national board certified teacher since 2002.  MIa currently serves on the board of directors for Hopetree Family Services in Virginia.  She published her first book, What Are You Craving? A Step-by Step Guide to Designing the Life You Were Meant to Live with her friend and co-author, Dawn Sheek In 2017.  She currently divides her time between her two homes in North Carolina and Virginia with her husband and their blended family of four children.
