Bio

As a former high school math teacher, Lance has worked with math teachers in many different school settings: urban and rural, middle schools and high schools, small Early Colleges and large comprehensive high schools. Lance also has a passion for working with first-year teachers, as he experienced first-hand both the successes and the challenges of this critical time in a teacher’s career. Lance coaches teachers in one-on-one settings, in small groups and Professional Learning Communities, and also designs and delivers whole-staff or large group Professional Development sessions, customized to the needs of individual schools. Lance has extensive experience with the flipped classroom model and the creation and use of video in the classroom, as well as the use of collaborative small group strategies.

Before beginning his career in education, Lance was an engineer and computer programmer with IBM. He earned his bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from the University of Tennessee at Knoxville, and he holds a master’s degree in secondary math education from Wake Forest University. He currently teaches online math courses through the North Carolina Virtual Public School (NCVPS), and also writes science and math curricula for a homeschool curriculum company. He published his first book, Flip Your Classroom, Then Flip It Again, in 2015, and he lives in the mountains of North Carolina with his wife and sons.
